The upcoming beautiful.bizarre curated exhibition ‘Bitter | Sweet‘ will open on 18 March at 19 Karen Contemporary Artspace on the Gold Coast, Australia. This exhibition will feature the best new contemporary artists from Australia and around the world, many of whom we are honoured to bring to Australia for the first time!

The beautiful.bizarre Co-Founders Danijela Krha Purssey and Richard Purssey are flying in from Sydney to attend the opening reception, as are many of the Australian artists.  So if you are in Brisbane or on the Gold Coast, please do join us from 6pm on Saturday the 18th of March for an incredible evening!

“Good/bad, win/loss, strong/weak, bitter/sweet: These are seemingly dichotomous elements in which we prescribe opposing value. One we seek, the other we deride and avoid. The idea that we can live with one and not the other is an illusion. Rather than antithetical, these are the precious ingredients that give life its flavor.  It is only when these conflicting ingredients are most exquisitely blended—enhanced by time, circumstance, and experience—do they reveal that life’s fragility is what gives it meaning.” Kirsten Stingle

“Simplicity and complexity need one another, light cannot exist without the dark. We would love to surround our reality with only the sweetness but how would we know of its existence without the bitterness that accompanies it. In all matters the two extremes must accompany our journey in order to know the depth of human emotion. The universe is about balance, if one never experienced bitterness, hurt, anger and disappointment, no matter how distasteful to accept, or painful and unpleasant, we would never recognise nor appreciate the sweetness, love, the joy of being alive.

In this exhibition the artists have been asked to look at both the bitter and the sweet, the dark and the light, the love and the pain, and draw from their own life experiences to create emotive and expressive works.  Works that make the viewer feel.” Danijela Krha Purssey, Co-Founder & Editor-in-Chief, beautiful.bizarre
