Dark surrealism with an avant-garde twist. Hmmm. Sounds intriguing, but what does it mean?
The monochromatic acrylic paintings of @catharses.art - manifested through a distorted reality of their subconscious mind - may seem on the surface to be straight up ABSTRACT.
Whoa-whoa-whoaaa, ch-ch-ch-chillllll! Once you take a few moments to zoom in, that's when the real magic will be unleashed.
Amid splatters and swirling planes of light, you'll begin to see a churning array of diverse beings (serpents, birds, howling entities, etc.) struggling to break free from the void.
We love social media for its endless ability to foster our artistic nourishment, but if you're in the Tampa, Florida area, please just see these two paintings with your own two👀eyes during Catharses' debut solo show "Enantiodromia", which @musoniumgallery will be unveiling during their grand opening on Friday, January 6th! (Sometimes, there's nothing quite like the REAL THING!)
INSIDE ISSUE 39 // "The artist himself is a master at many crafts, including sculpture and photography, and utilises his sensibility to further his exploration of what it means to create. Some theologians and philosophers would even go as far as saying that an artist's need to create is in fact a reflection of God’s act of creation. The act of creating could then be understood as something metaphysical, a pursuit of the divine in its most evident form. It is true that the miracle of art is its ability to represent something superior to the ordinary, something worthy, and to some extent, something worthy of God. In Hiroshi’s case, there is indeed a form of pursuit but it couldn’t be complete without the presence of a perpetual restlessness – as he puts it himself – and unrelenting inquisitiveness."

Sculptor @thomasdambo brings trolls (back) to our forests and makes them the protectors of nature. Sculptor, recycler and storyteller Thomas shares on his website: “My mission is to create great experiences out of trash and to inspire people to understand that trash is a beautiful resource. I want to be able to make my art without leaving a scar on the planet while having a good time.”
