We interview a lot of unique creatives, but lately we've chatted with some especially interesting peeps, like Mark Walker whose imaginative, dark pop-surrealistic sculptures emerge from his "affection for things that are odd rather than conventional".
The Seattle-based sculptor - who is represented by @opensesamegalleryandbooks - says that his appreciation for diverse influences such as 13th to 18th century masterworks, Christian church art, and contemporary horror and science fiction movies contributes to his distinctive aesthetic.

“Someone suggested I should do another ‘Tresses’ drawing with a skinnier person as the subject because, in their words, ‘it would be much more beautiful’.”
@kae.britton ’s ‘Tresses’ (graphite, white charcoal, acrylic paint on toned paper) is a true labour of love. The artist worked over 3,5 months creating this powerful piece expressing their identity and “how bizarre femininity makes me feel as an AFAB non-binary person”. In a recent repost, K.Britton adds another context to the drawing: “An undertone of my work is to show fatness in a neutral/surreal/beautiful way. The idea that someone would comment and say that my drawing would be much more beautiful with a skinny person in it is actually this great irony because that is exactly what I’m combatting in my work.”

@la_rue___ , muralist, sculptor and illustrator, shares her thoughts about her birthplace Colombia. She shares further in the caption: “A place that has forced me (the hard way) to believe in myself to overcome the obstacles and inequalities that women face in a country plagued by violence and impunity where it is exhausting, difficult and dangerous to be a woman and even worse if you are born poor and black because these two factors define your visibility. This first chapter is not only to show you our struggles as women and blacks, and it is to show the pride I feel in empowering myself as my own Goddess, one of those who wears flip-flops and knows how to hold a machete to cut the grass, but who also knows how to defend their ideals and fight every day to overcome the difficulties of a system that was not designed for us to be successful. This work is for all women because we are pure pride in resilience, struggle and rebellion.”
