Cedric Delsaux, a French photographer who’s widely known for a photographic series George Lucas considers “one of the most unique and intriguing interpretations [of Star Wars] he’s ever seen”, has created seven new images for his upcoming exhibition at Baker + Hesseldenz Fine Art in Tucson, Arizona. His initial intention, however, was not to create a Star Wars series but to document both the beauty and the ugliness of “the peripheral zones” of modern cities: Parking lots, waste lands, empty deserts, scrapyards, as well as overlooked and forgotten places. He started this series when he traveled to Dubai in February 2009. For ten days, he roamed around with his camera to capture numerous anonymous peripheral places. Nevertheless, he was not satisfied with the images he created. To him, something was missing. So, when he returned to Paris, he went in search for some things that can make his images pop. His decision to incorporate sci-fi figures into the photographs he captured in Dubai was proven to be a propitious one as the Star Wars characters allow him to express reality through fiction more vividly than objective documentary photographs ever can.
