About the Artist // Israeli artist Julie Filipenko lives and works in Tel Aviv. She graduated from Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design in Jerusalem with a bachelor’s degree. Filipenko has exhibited in various group shows in galleries around the world Her art can be found on her collaboration with URBAN NATION on Project M/14 in 2019.
In her work, Filipenko illuminates the adventurous experiences of adolescents. Her protagonists, mostly girls, roam a brightly colored world and radiate an idealized innocence. The painter, who loves patterns, details and design, often ornaments her pictures with flower motifs and the constellations of the solar system. Each human figure is assigned an animal companion as a counterpart. Both seem curious and as if they couldn’t wait to explore the world together.
