On Saturday, May 7, 2016, Copro Gallery unveils an exceptional solo show by modern surrealist painter Mike Davis. ‘Ghosts of the Future’, Mike’s second solo show at Copro Gallery, will be sharing a selection of darkly complex oil paintings that effortlessly mix the contemporary and the traditional. The effects are deeply moving. Symbols, motifs, and the downright bizarre share space with recognizable subjects of previous eras of oil painting; elements of Bosch, Bruegel and van Eyck are undeniable, yet the modern connotations slipped in provide entire new landscapes into parallel worlds.
Mike Davis will attend at the opening reception at Copro Gallery on Saturday May 7, available for the signing his book ‘A Blind Man’s Journey’. As a self-taught painter, Mike grew up surrounded by crafts including woodwork and leatherwork, and was constantly encouraged to evolve his creative skills as he also immersed himself in art history throughout the ages. His latest exhibition at Copro Gallery continues his practice of painting curiously dark yet playful compositions with superb skill, once again triggering mixed emotions as he blends whimsical scenarios with sometimes poignant undertones. Prepare for a trip down the rabbit hole as you meet the ‘Ghosts of the Future’.
