Yamamoto is known for her oil paintings portraying children in animal suits or possessing animal features, to reveal their inner world.
Like a protective armor in response to their emotions and psychological state, they seem to instinctively hide behind a second skin in the form of animal costumes or some other defensive physical animalistic features. In some of the pieces, Yamamoto paints settings inspired by nature, further enhancing the contemplative space into which the subject seems to find solace in the dreamlike natural habitat.
Featured painting: 'Little Dog Boy in Box' Oil on canvas (17.9" x 13.1")
INSIDE ISSUE 34 // “I work on subjects that interest me, and I dig deeper. It's a matter of feeding yourself with information and then working on the ideas you have to see if they are interesting or just a one-shot. Most ideas will lead to others, which eventually might lead to a good one.”

Pompous dresses, eccentric wigs, and a yummy macaron in the hand… this is how “Anarchy in Versailles” looks like! The collaboration of photographer @harisnukem , model @maja.jpeg, and make-up artist @planetcoryn takes us back to the 17th century (with some contemporary twists).
We love Haris Nukem for his intriguingly constructed compositions, meaningful portraiture, and beautiful-bizarre visual storytelling.

Don’t miss @roosvandervliet’s solo, if you can make it to @thinkspace_art! The exhibition ‘Mirrors of Your Soul’ opened its doors last Saturday. So exciting!
The statement of the show announces: “The body of work is the result of the recent pandemic, a return to portraits at a time of extreme isolation. (...) While the concepts of this solo exhibition are familiar for the artist--hair, piercing eyes, golden hour light--the intention behind the works has changed. Rather than focusing on differences, ‘Mirrors of Your Soul’ highlights the similarities between us, emphasizing that we are all more alike than we often care to admit.”
The exhibition is on until the 9th of October! If you cannot visit the space in person, you should check out Roos' paintings on the gallery's website.
Online, it is always a smiley. A “reality” that obviously does not apply always offline.
@jopfe, “a visual artist with a focus on 3D and motion design”, totally got me on both the content and technical level. The textures, movement, and concept are beyond intriguing and I kept re-watching every single post on his feed. The right place to get lost!
‘The caretakers’ is my favorite piece by her because it really showcases what I see her message being, that there's strength in the delicate and vulnerable. I love how her work really takes you to another world, you can get completely lost in the details and visual feast of all the hidden lace and little animal friends. She has always been so kind and modest in the brief interactions I've had with her over the internet. I'd love to one day meet her in person and tell her face to face how her work has moved me. Never stop being you, girl. Keep creating and know you're teaching and reminding others that there is so much beauty and grace in being strong but remaining gentle and kind 👏❤️” - @jill.a.beans
We asked for your favorite female artists in August and got a bunch of beautiful responses... what a hard decision! Congratulations, Jill, you won a copy of our special March 2021 'Women Artists' issue! 🖤
