Kukula‘s little doll like women live in a world in between a dream and the late 1500’s. With vivid colors and what seems to be a bit of magic, these ladies are drenched in couture styled fashions, it’s suiting that her solo show at AFA NYC opened amidst New York City’s fall fashion week. Entitled “Haute Debutante”, the Israel born painter creates a narrative about how women present themselves to society through the ritual that is fashion and style. Kukula takes inspiration from an art deco and 20’s era approach which is a blend of super modern rooted in classical artisan skills. The fine details she adds to each painting draw you in, keeping your eyes wandering and meticulously build the scene. Sensual yet demure ladies invoke a viewers’ curiosity. They seem to be inspiring other women to show off their own creative potential.
