What are your goals as an artist?
I have focused so much on painting portraits and I miss sculpting. I now am incorporating renaissance techniques of pastiglia and water gilding into my paintings which will allow me to combine my passion for micro-sculpture and painting on the same panel. I hope that incorporating these techniques will expand the level of story-telling in my work. I would like to continue to explore the themes of couture, historical and cultural inspiration and modern expression while pushing the boundaries of my own imagination.

What do you struggle most with as an artist?
Art can be very lonely work. It is when I started painting my own stories and emotions that I felt a true connection with my audience and understanding that these are the stories they want to see me paint. I think personal stories are what connect and inspire people and transport audiences emotionally. I continue to push myself to share these stories.

What was the most helpful feedback you ever received?
The best feedback is when people tell me that the story and emotion behind my work resonates with them.

How do you approach the challenge of staying relevant and current in the rapidly changing world of contemporary art?
My family, having carved out a small niche in Rome’s fashion world, fed my obsession with painting couture. Stories are written between the seams of history. There is nothing that holds a secret or a good story like a well worn dress! These are the stories I paint. We live in a time where the handmade and the human touch feels more and more out of reach. The language of traditional painting and the wold of couture are similar in that the secrets of their craft is learned in a studio and passed down from generation to generation. Keeping these languages alive infuses modern life with the ultimate in skilled handcrafted human creation.
