About the Gallery //
Haven Gallery is run by Erica Berkowitz and Joseph Weinreb. The gallery first opened in 2015 in the Carriage House of historic Northport, NY. Within two years, the gallery doubled in size and expanded into the entire Carriage House building. Through their successful in-house exhibitions and presentations at art fairs both domestic and international, Haven opened a secondary location at 90 Main St., in 2020, during the height of the Covid pandemic. It was at that point, that Erica and Joseph knew it was time to find a permanent location for their artists. In January of 2022, they bought the building at 50 Main st., and opened its doors as Haven Gallery’s perennial home.
Haven Gallery’s focus is on exhibiting emotionally, intellectually and imaginatively driven, representational artwork that connects the audience and artist with universal axioms and passions. We work with both emerging and established artists who transcend their medium and subjects by exploring the world around them as well as the one within themselves.
Thomas Ascott, “Most Have Birds”
Haven Gallery is pleased to present “Most Have Birds”, a collection of works by Florida based artist, Thomas Ascott. “Most Have Birds” is Ascott’s second show at the gallery and features nine new works following his animal and youthful protagonists embarking on tranquil meanderings throughout verdant forests. The symbology of birds and their freedom resonates with Ascott’s sitters as they flock, play and create in a world full of magic and mystery without the constraints of society. Nostalgia and wonder pervade each narrative as we lose ourselves amongst imaginative yet relatable worlds harking back to memories of yore.
Jeff Echevarria, “Echo of Dreams”
Haven Gallery is pleased to present “Echo of Dreams”, a collection of new charcoal and graphite drawings by New Jersey based artist, Jeff Echevarria. “Echo of Dreams” is Echevarria’s second solo show at the gallery and features twelve new narratives meticulously drawn and shaded, chronicling the lives and magic found in realms of mythology and fairy. Echevarria’s hand and imagination unfold adventures and dreams straight out of fairy tales and high fantasy. Viewers are reminded of their own childhood musings and quests where animals carry conversations and the worlds vastness invites curiosity and creativity.
Echevarria’s technique is praised for its realistic tendencies, but also its heartfelt approach to technique and story telling. Each drawing is masterfully drawn but imbues heavy emotion as the artist revisits stories of the past with new eyes and perspective. A near death experience, resulting surgery and subsequent rehabilitation, left Echevarria with an opportunity to learn again how to draw and see the world anew. His art represents just that; a beautiful revival and celebration of perspective; a familiar but novel visit to the transportive and comforting worlds of the supernatural and a revival of hope. A reminder of the power and strength of human perspective and heart.
Alfred Liu
Haven Gallery is honored to present Australian based artist Alfred Liu for his second solo show at the gallery. The exhibition will feature six works on paper that chronicle the small but mighty adventures of the artist’s multi-species characters, with a focus on rabbits. Liu’s gouache paintings are a pastiche of his Chinese heritage, Australian upbringing and love for the supernatural stories found throughout mythology, science fiction and fantasy genres. These visions of lore defy gravity and reality while merging animal and human worlds into one, ultimately creating timeless tales of universality and adventure. Liu’s epic escapades remind us of our own life journeys, and thus, to appreciate all those we meet, accomplish and experience, ultimately enriching and distinctifying our own path.
Artist Biography: Alfred Liu is an Australian artist, his work depicts his love for Australia, the nostalgia of Chinese culture, passion for world history and the escapism of science fiction and fantasy.
Zoe Thomas
Haven Gallery is pleased to present new new sculptures by UK based artist Zoe Thomas. “New Works” is Thomas’s third solo show at the gallery and features seven clay sculpted and sewn dolls that surrealistically merge the world of humans with the animal kingdom. Serenely painted faces are embraced by wings, an owl visitor or an entire animal ensemble. Humanity peacefully co-exists with animals in the souls of her dolls as they exude a sense of tranquility and peace. A reminder of our natural roots and the undoubted connection of all living things.
