As the Editor-in-Chief of Beautiful Bizarre Magazine I have had the pleasure of working with many incredible sculptors for more than 5 years now – for the magazine itself, our web blog, our curated exhibitions, the Beautiful Bizarre Magazine Art Prize, and of course sharing their work across our 900,000+ strong social media network. Sculpture is personally my favourite medium, so it is always a thrill to delve deeply into the practices of my favourite artists, or to discover a new sculptor whose work is unique and technically exceptional.
So as this year comes to a close I wanted to share with you a list of artists who work in a wide variety of mediums from found object assemblage, glass, textiles, wood, marble, sculpey, metal, wax, string, bones, feathers, fibreglass, sugar, resin, metal, clay, taxidermy, paper, textiles, fine porcelain etc., and whose works range in scale from miniature to larger than life or room size! All of whom I believe are among the greatest living and working sculptors of 2018. This is not an exhaustive list by any means, and not is any particular order, however as you will see the works speak for themselves. The list includes internationally acclaimed artists, whose work is held in many museum permanent collections, as well as fascinating and brilliant emerging sculptors who deserve more attention. You may note that there are some sculptors who are conspicuously missing, this is because I have not included artists with a minimal or no Instagram presence [my little tip for all artists: showing beautiful photographs of completed works, rather than just works in progress, is very important], because as you will see all the artists mentioned below are linked to their Instagram accounts, so you can quickly and easily follow them too!
We hope this list helps aspiring sculpture get some ideas on how to get more instagram followers and if you are a sculptor, or know one that you feel should be included in next year’s list, please comment below. I am always in search of exciting new creatives! And if you want to gave some more traction on your own pieces, check out kenji for instagram growth.
Finally, the Beautiful Bizarre Magazine Art Prize will have a separate Sculpture Category Award in 2019 to ensure all the amazing emerging and mid career sculptors around the world get the recognition they deserve! Join our email mailing list to ensure you don’t miss out on all the Beautiful Bizarre Magazine Art Prize news and of course to be notified when entries open in the new year. The 2019 Prize will also have separate Category Awards for Traditional [painting, drawing, collage etc], Digital Art and Photography, so let all your creative friends know! We will be announcing the Jury Panel and Prizes in the new year. See details of this year’s Beautiful Bizarre Magazine Art Prize, Finalists, Honourable Mentions and Winners.
Note this list does not include Art Dolls or Art Toys. I hope to do another list of these artists in future.
