Clive Barker’s ‘Wunderkammer’ & ‘From the Depths’ Group Exhibit @ Copro Gallery

beautifulbizarre_issue013_print-digital

This Saturday, August 6, Cris Velasco curates two astoundingly bodacious shows at Copro Gallery. Clive Barker’s neo-expressionist ‘Wunderkammer’ and a very special ‘From the Depths’ group show will pique your senses with an array of artworks, raw and vibrant. Clive’s works encompass parallel worlds that touch on darkness, fantasy and the downright bizarre, while ‘From the Depths’ draws together a striking selection of artists to share their works, each inspired by the master of horror fiction, H.P. Lovecraft.

In a special joint opening for both shows, Copro Gallery have plenty in store to help celebrate their latest gathering of works from well-known visionaries around the world. Alongside a live performance by Body Painter Michael Rosner of Eye Level Studios and the music of the sensuously spooky Marquis & The Rhythm Howlers, you are invited to join in with their opening celebrations by dressing up as either a Clive Barker or H.P. Lovecraft character!

Clive Barker – ‘Wunderkammer’: English artist, writer and film director, Clive is perhaps best well-known for his works across the fantasy and horror genres. Having written many novels, some of which have been adapted into films including Candyman and Hellraiser, Clive’s imagination and ability to portray ingenious equilibriums between parallel realities has propelled him into the limelight across multiple creative mediums. Wunderkammer’ – otherwise known as the ‘Cabinet of Curiousities’ – takes its name from a concept originating in Renaissance Europe in which works of art and antiquities were displayed. The Wunderkammer was, in many ways, the precursor to the modern museum. Clive Barker’s solo show aims to bring to life the wonder and curiosity that comes with both displaying and exploring art, not forgetting his signature energy that emits from every painting.
