In a way, Casey Weldon‘s “Stray Voltage” is a series of non-photographic light paintings. Using acrylic paints, he created the very same effects seen on light painting and long exposure night photography. Whether they are partially illuminated by highly reflective objects or washed by swirling artificial lights, most of the subject’s features are veiled in darkness. Alternately, we can also see Casey Weldon’s recent works as contemporary reinterpretations of Baroque painter’s night scenes. Instead of a using candlelight, the chiaroscuro effect seen in this series of paintings seem to be created using contemporary artificial light sources such as glow sticks, pen lights, flash lights, and mobile phones’ or iPods’ screens.
