There are magic spells more powerful than others are, but the one attached to the work of Lenka Simeckova is definitely bewitching. This 24-year-old student, living in Czech Republic, is creating digital dark illustrations and comics (based on pencil sketches) that fascinating at first sight. A storyteller, the young artist is inspired by fantasy literature, with the gothic Victorian atmospheres of Edgar Allan Poe, the dark horror of H.P. Lovecraft, but also the witty fantastic of classic Russian masterpiece The Master and Margarita of Mikhaïl Bulgakov and the spellbinding eroticism of The Witches of Eastwick of John Updike… Witchcraft, demonology, mythology and horror, these are the regular themes of the digital artist. Her characters of predilection are slender and irresistible witches and female demons, as well as their male counterparts and the Devil himself, caught in their sabbat’s splendor, sexually free and fatally powerful. The visual and creative illustrations of Lenka Simeckova are full of esotericism but also dark humor. Modern and geeky, with evident tributes to video games (a fandom to Dishonored’s Delilah Copperspoon) and gothic animation, the work of this young talent could be worth selling your soul… to her!
