About ‘The Ghost Lights II//

‘The Ghost Lights II’ is the second installment in Juliet Schreckinger’s three part ‘The Ghost Lights’ series. This ongoing series was originally inspired by Juliet’s decision to join the United States Lighthouse Society. Upon receiving a lighthouse passport book, members are encouraged to visit participating lighthouses and get their book stamped in commemoration of their visit. This exciting new hobby would lead Juliet to a lighthouse offering a pack of stamps titled ‘The Lost Lights’, a collection of stamps based on lighthouses that had been destroyed by nature due to lack of upkeep. While man-made, these lighthouses often become homes to a range of animals including seabirds and sea lions. Having gained this knowledge, inspiration struck Juliet and so began her ‘The Ghost Lights’ series.

Through a combination of stippling techniques in pen and ink and graphite as a secondary medium, Juliet’s ‘The Ghost Lights II’ showcases over 20 new illustrations on archival paper. These works focus heavily on Juliet’s passion for animal and ocean conservation in hopes of providing Earth’s creatures an advocate to speak for them. ‘The Ghost Lights’ series offers themes of hope, light and the possibility for a positive future that shine brightly through foggy skies of fear and the unknown. This exhibition showcases a unique cast of unlikely lightkeepers as extinct animals of all shapes, sizes and classifications caress these long lost structures in a warm embrace. These works are complimented with her ‘Captain’ series, featuring 16 unique bird species wearing captain hats. ‘The Ghost Lights II’ is a haunting yet hopeful reminder of future possibilities and a glowing example for the next generation to learn from.
