Tino Rodriguez & Virgo Paraiso: Immortality
Press Release //
Modern Eden Gallery is pleased to present the second gallery exhibition from the Bay Area duo Tino Rodriguez and Virgo Paraiso. “This exhibit is an homage to our childhood memories of ‘Dia de los Muertos’ (Day of the Dead) which we celebrate in Mexico, by remembering our beloved departed ones and offering flowers, candles and sugar skulls. It is also an homage to the transformative power of the imagination.”
“maybe death
isn’t darkness, after all,
but so much light
wrapping itself around us—
as soft as feathers…”
Tino Rodríguez is a Mexican-American painter. Born and raised in Guadalajara, Mexico, Rodriguez was influenced by the symbolism and themes evident in the Catholic churches of his youth. His work was also influenced by his absorption of fairy tales.
His work incorporates fantastical imagery combining animal and human forms, as well as dream-like backgrounds and settings. His work has been exhibited at numerous venues in San Francisco. The exhibition Tino Rodríguez: The Darkening Garden/El Jardin al Anochecer was featured at the San Jose Museum of Art in 2003. Rodriguez studied at the Sorbonne in 1990. He received his Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the San Francisco Art Institute and his Master of Fine Arts from the University of New Mexico.
Virgo Paraiso was born in Chihuahua Mexico. He grew up between Japan, Hawaii, and San Francisco. He has studied art, and exhibited in all of these places, as well as New York, Boston, and Berlin. He has done work for The Wachowskis, Netflix series Sense 8, music video for Anthony and the Johnsons, and movies including Jupiter ascending and Matrix 4.
