Mimi Scholz: Welcome to Girlie Wonderland

Welcome to a world of eccentricity and pop surrealism at its peak, those of Berliner digital artist Mimi Scholz.  Here, ancient and modern Asia are mixed with Mexican wrestlers, references to hard-rock icons and psychedelic kawai little creatures, while science fiction and childhood toys are discreetly perverted.

Mimi’s roots in animation explain the dynamism of her playful scenes. Her illustrations offer silky shines, girly pastels and fluo coloured eyes, affectionately mocking the cliches of feminity and erotica. The borders between good and evil are always confused, allowing feminism to collide with overt sexuality.

At first a traditional artist, Mimi bases her digital work  on her pencil sketches. She decided to try her luck in the art business when she met Yasha Young of the Strychnin Gallery, who has represented her since 2006. She is often featured in art and tattoo magazines and exhibits her work around the world.

Her illustrations are so detailed that we have chosen to show you close-ups, but if you wish to see the entire pieces please visit Mini’s website.
