Forget the post-holiday hangover; the year is waking up with a jolt of energy and inspiration. On January 10th, Haven Gallery transforms into a portal where the friction between the natural world, ancient myth, and pure magic finally gives way. This weekend, they aren’t just opening doors, the gallery is dissolving the boundaries of what you thought was possible. Don’t they always…
Celebrating Jon Ching, ‘Escape’, Shannon Taylor, ‘Magic is Alive‘, Domina, ‘Feminine Pollution‘, and new works by Sachiyo Aoyama, each collection is a sanctuary for your art-loving soul. With ‘Literature’, Group Exhibition, we turn the pages of this chapter, longing for new stories to emerge while reflecting on the ones that shape us. Whether you’re looking to lose yourself in a surrealist forest or hold an entire universe in the palm of your hand, this lineup isn’t just an exhibition – it’s a collective dare to see the world through a more artistic, free-spirited lens.

About the Gallery
Haven Gallery is run by Erica Berkowitz and Joseph Weinreb. The gallery first opened in 2015 in the Carriage House of historic Northport, NY. Within two years, the gallery doubled in size and expanded into the entire Carriage House building. Through their successful in-house exhibitions and presentations at art fairs both domestic and international, Haven opened a secondary location at 90 Main St., in 2020, during the height of the Covid pandemic. It was at that point, that Erica and Joseph knew it was time to find a permanent location for their artists. In January of 2022, they bought the building at 50 Main st., and opened its doors as Haven Gallery’s perennial home.
Haven Gallery’s focus is on exhibiting emotionally, intellectually and imaginatively driven, representational artwork that connects the audience and artist with universal axioms and passions. We work with both emerging and established artists who transcend their medium and subjects by exploring the world around them as well as the one within themselves.
Jon Ching, Escape
Haven Gallery is honored to present “Escape”, an exhibition of new paintings by California based artist Jon Ching. “Escape” is Ching’s third solo show at the gallery and features ten new paintings that focus on the theme of escape as channeled through the artists quintessential flora and fauna. The notion of “escape” is not new to sentient beings, yet the oversaturation and emotional demand of the socio-political-environmental spheres on the human psyche has surged to all-time highs, resulting in a new evolutionary need of escape. Ching demonstrates the art of escape, both mentally and physically, through his beautiful portrayal of nature, aiding the viewer in finding their own peace and consolation through the natural world.
About Jon Ching
Jon is a self-trained artist originally from Kaneohe, Hawaii and currently lives and works in Los Angeles, California. Steeped in the natural beauty of O’ahu, Hawai’i, his island upbringing instilled in him indigenous lessons of appreciation and respect for nature, forming the foundation of his fascination with the natural and wild world, which deeply influences and drives his work.
Jon’s devoted art practice and detailed realism is inspired by the interconnectedness of nature. His work is a surreal imagining of what limitless wonders and combinations nature can produce. New creatures and symbioses emerge in his meticulously rendered oil paintings, exemplifying the endless potential of life on Earth through metaphor and allegory.
Jon’s ultimate hope is to inspire love and admiration for the universally unique beauty and intrigue of our planet. He regularly works to bring awareness to endangered species, the current mass extinction crisis and climate change, and continues to partner with environmental organizations in fundraising and educational efforts.

Shannon Taylor, Magic is Alive
Haven Gallery is honored to present “Magic is Alive”, an exhibition of new miniature works by California based artist Shannon Taylor. “Magic is Alive” is Taylor’s third solo show at the gallery and features fourteen new miniature paintings/sculptures that highlight the magic and wonder of the natural world. Taylor’s miniature works are made up of hand-cut paper, painted and assembled in vintage compacts, creating miniature worlds full of minutiae detail and colorful narratives. Each compact bursts with enchantment and transcendence, yet the familiar elements of flora and fauna reminds us that magic is all around us, one just has to look.
About Shannon Taylor
Shannon Taylor is a painter, illustrator, craftsman and educator based out of Oakland, California. She is the Assistant Chair of the Illustration Program at the California College of the Arts, and has also been the long-time Director of Art and Restoration at Children’s Fairyland in Oakland.
Taylor exhibits her work extensively with galleries Arch Enemy Arts in Philadelphia, Modern Eden in San Francisco, as well as Haven Gallery in New York, and Beinart in Australia. Taylor’s client lists include Netflix, Bath and Body Works, Saylor Agency, Shondaland, Paragon Books, Monsa Publications, Edition One Books, Fashion Fights Cancer, Vote Equality and Artists 4 ERA among others. She has been interviewed on podcasts such as the Jealous Curator’s “Art for your Ears” and “Mad About Miniatures”, and featured on sites like Colossal and Beautiful Bizarre.
A highly prolific artist, Taylor has developed a style of watercolor that is distinctly her own, utilizing rich colors, layers of blending, dry-brushing, and pattern work, Taylor is constantly pushing and expanding on the possibilities of the medium. Often conjuring the decorative and figurative qualities of the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood and aesthetic movement, Taylor’s work is an exploration of beauty. In her paintings, heavy indigo skies are filled with stars, and flowers bloom from the backs of languid, lovely women, and tiny worlds can be held in your hand; the world that Taylor has made is gilt, prismatic, and lovingly wrought.

Domina, Feminine Pollution
Haven Gallery is honored to present “Feminine Pollution”, an exhibition of new paintings by Canada based Domina (Kate Domina). “Feminine Pollution” is Domina’s third solo show at the gallery and features eight new paintings that both question and take control of the female role in portraiture throughout art history. Furthering her exploration of dualities, a prominent motif in the artists oeuvre, Domina begs the viewer to renew their perspectives of the story of the female in fine art, seizing control from the artist and placing it in the hands of the sitter and viewer. Domina’s new collection is powerfully evocative: through her sitters, she reimagines how we see the female on the panel, as well as how we see ourselves through the dichotomies of identity.
Artist Statement
“Feminine Pollution” pushes Domina’s exploration of female expectation into the universal dilemma of the Madonna/ Whore dichotomy. Painting polarizing perspectives as double exposure portraits has propelled Domina into a new realm of Op Art. Intersecting her signature candy coated palette with religious iconography, Domina hypothesizes ways to reconcile the duelling expectations of Saintly purity and raw sexuality within us all.

Sachiyo Aoyama, Mini Collection
Haven Gallery is pleased to present a mini collection of paintings from Japan based Sachiyo Aoyama featuring exquisitely detailed portraits pulling from both personal and historical mythologies.
