2024 Beautiful Bizarre Art Prize Finalists share their success stories

It’s not just about winning; plenty of Beautiful Bizarre Art Prize finalists have also enjoyed a boost to their careers!

Each year, the Editor-in-Chief of Beautiful Bizarre Magazine and the team review all entries submitted to the Beautiful Bizarre Art Prize. From the entries received, the 150 short-listed Finalists [25 per Award category: Painting, Drawing, Digital Art, Photography, Sculpture; and Emerging Art Award category] will receive extensive international promotion through Beautiful Bizarre Magazine’s email marketing, website coverage, social media marketing & advertising, and additional connections and outreach through our partners, friends, supporters and media.

The esteemed Jury Panel, which changes each year, then reviews each Finalist’s work and practice, and casts their vote. From these votes the Winners in each Award category – and the overall Grand Prize Winner – are selected.

Success Stories

Previous Beautiful Bizarre Art Prize Finalists have shared their progress stories with us, and we want to celebrate these achievements. So why not take a few minutes to discover what some of the 2024 Finalists have been up to since last year’s Art Prize.

Anne Breymann

“Coming from a background of animation filmmaking I had only recently decided to focus more on my sculptural work, and it was my first time submitting to the Yasha Young Projects Sculpture Award. When my work was selected as one of the finalists it felt like a sign that I’m on the right track. Since then I’ve been invited to work with several galleries, and am currently creating new work for upcoming group shows. Thanks to Beautiful Bizarre Magazine for opening these doors for me!”

“I’ve just finished my stop motion animated short film Radix, which features the creatures and the tree sculpture of my Finalist artwork [watch the trailer here!].

Rhea O’Neill

I had taken 2 years off from painting to have my baby and I was a little worried about what this might mean for my career. I had entered before but unfortunately hadn’t made it through. I couldn’t believe it when I was chosen as a finalist! It has been a huge mental boost for me and it helped me go from strength to strength in 2024.

I received a number of show invitations from new galleries and my sales have increased. I have also made a number of new artist connections, which help me grow on a personal level.

Feeling like I am a part of the greater art community really helps my confidence and this has been reflected on my social media posts. I have gained a new following of people who are highly engaged and interested in my work.

Lara Hochreiter

“I think the most important thing that changed since I became a finalist in 2024 is my confidence as an artist. The recognition gave me a boost in believing in myself and knowing I am going in the right direction. Since then, I have been working with three new galleries, including Modern Eden Gallery and have already planned four group exhibitions for 2025.

Beautiful Bizarre Magazine inspires me and challenges me to compete with the world’s best artists – let’s go again in 2025!

Anna Wypych

It’s not just about winning – thanks to being a finalist, all my social media have gained popularity. The increase in interest was noticeable, which directly impacted the fact that my works became part of several prestigious collections that I hadn’t been in before.

“Besides that, a lot has happened in my career since then. Most importantly, there was a group exhibition at Principle Gallery, which I curated. We managed to bring together truly fantastic artists and incredible works for the exhibition “Catharsis – Wild Heart”, which took place in September 2024. Another amazing exhibition I am participating in is “Transcending Tradition: Selection of Works from The Bennett Collection of Women Realists.” It’s incredible that my paintings are now in the permanent collection of the seven museums!

These were not the only exhibitions I have been part of since then, but they were probably the most significant ones. In painting, my “Red Series” is flourishing – I still have more ideas for paintings than I can physically create!”

Glimpse of Horror

The growing recognition of my artistic work, confirmed by being selected as a finalist in the 2024 Beautiful Bizarre Art Prize has led to me being contacted by the University of Kent (Canterbury, UK) to conduct a creative photography workshop for the students of the Costume and Fashion course.

“The workshop will take place in March 2025 and will focus on the creation of creative photography inspired by movies and literature. In the meantime, I am organizing my next image to submit to the Beautiful Bizarre Art Prize, collaborating with various props makers, with the goal of winning!

Lesley Thiel

I have had the good fortune to be invited to show at the new O Gallery in Denmark, where I will be one of four artists having a small solo show, from March 8th to May 3rd. March 28th is also the official opening of the new wing of the Muskegon Museum in Michigan, USA, where one of my paintings, which is part of the Bennett Collection of Women Artists, will be part of the permanent collection.

Dan Chudzinski

“The Beautiful Bizarre Art Prize helped to amplify my creative voice by generating unique opportunities through which to pursue a few of my passion projects.

“After becoming a Finalist, my work has been featured in gallery exhibitions in NYC, toured nationally, and even led to collaborations with some of my artistic heroes. It is surreal to be in a position to bring my artistic dreams to fruition. I am grateful to the Beautiful Bizarre Art Prize for enabling those moments.”

David Seidman

As an artist, it’s important to have an audience. I create art not only for myself, but also in hopes that people will discover and connect with the art.

Receiving recognition on a level that Beautiful Bizarre Art Prize is able to provide creates a ripple effect of opportunity. One that allows my art to branch out into many different aspects of my career.

From working with new galleries to creating licensed posters for Evil Dead 2 and companies like Mondo to illustrating book covers for New York Times Bestselling authors. My Finalist artwork was recently used as the cover of a new Stabbing Westward album. Beautiful Bizarre Magazine gives my dark surrealist art an unparalleled reach to a worldwide audience that is looking to connect with what I love to create.
