Cinthia James is an artist who has dedicated her practice towards becoming proficient in illustration, surface pattern design, and graphic design. Over her life, the Berlin-based artist found herself most inspired by the worlds of fashion and music, discovering a particular penchant for K-pop.
Her art journey led her to create a unique creative process, which she documented along the way, all of which culminated in 2023 with the publication of her book Treasure Found: An Art Journey. Cinthia’s book was written as a guide to a personal creative routine and artistic process, packed with everything she wishes she’d been shown when developing her practice herself.
Cinthia spoke enthusiastically about the book in her recent interview with Beautiful Bizarre:
The advice in the book comes from what I learned along the way and what I wish I’d known when I was starting out. I studied graphic design in art school, but after I graduated, I felt lost. I didn’t see myself as a designer because I wanted to draw more, but I also didn’t want to go back to school immediately. I was exhausted, and I wasn’t sure what direction to take.
Treasure Found’s award-winning content is gathered from years of Cinthia’s passion to create and learn, but lacking in guidance about how to develop her process and find direction. There are courses available if you know what you want to study, but then what? How do you develop your practice and career? What are the best ways to create structure and routine for yourself, whilst still allowing the freedom and flexibility to allow creativity to flow?
Cinthia James started setting goals for herself, which eventually evolved into the process she shared across her 90 pages.
It’s a way to experiment, break through art block, and build a consistent practice that helps you grow and fill your portfolio.
The artist’s advice and guidelines proved to be so relatable and offered so much help and clarity to burgeoning creatives, that it won six awards and was the finalist in four others, and received several 5-star reviews.
Treasure Found is an aptly named guide. It does not prescribe how you should create, but helps you to make space on a landscape of possibilities to discover your creative treasure, and flourish as unique artist.
