About the Gallery //
Haven Gallery is run by Erica Berkowitz and Joseph Weinreb. The gallery first opened in 2015 in the Carriage House of historic Northport, NY. Within two years, the gallery doubled in size and expanded into the entire Carriage House building. Through their successful in-house exhibitions and presentations at art fairs both domestic and international, Haven opened a secondary location at 90 Main St., in 2020, during the height of the Covid pandemic.
It was at that point, that Erica and Joseph knew it was time to find a permanent location for their artists. In January of 2022, they bought the building at 50 Main st., and opened its doors as Haven Gallery’s perennial home.
Haven Gallery’s focus is on exhibiting emotionally, intellectually and imaginatively driven, representational artwork that connects the audience and artist with universal axioms and passions. We work with both emerging and established artists who transcend their medium and subjects by exploring the world around them as well as the one within themselves.
Stephanie Rew, “Precious Metals”
Haven Gallery is honored to present Scotland based artist, Stephanie Rew, for her first solo show, “Precious Metals”, at Haven Gallery. “Precious Metals” is a collection of thirteen paintings and drawings, elegantly depicting female sitters adorned in historical costumery with gold ornamentation and accents cascading as both garb and backdrops. Echoes of art history imbued with influence from the west and east, cast a timeless yet universal gracefulness to Rew’s strong and present subjects.
Rew’s work is a dance of the past and present; a mingling of historical motifs and fashions with contemporary design and sensibilities. Through her medium of egg tempera and gold, she uses contrasting elements that reconnect us to antiquity, honoring the splendor of the past with the magnificence of an imaginative and inventive mind. An intimate and poignant look at her sitters innermost machinations of emotions is evident, timelessly and elegantly connecting us to ourselves and kin, now and then.

ABOUT STEPHANIE REW
Stephanie Rew (b 1971) is a Scottish painter based in Edinburgh, UK.
Painting in the figurative realist style Stephanie incorporates paintings with gold leaf, combining traditional Early Renaissance gilding techniques with more contemporary ways of painting.
Stephanie won the Elizabeth Greenshields Foundation Bursary soon after graduating from Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art in Dundee. She won the ‘Best Nude’ Award in 2018 and the FWSD Award in 2019 in Art Renewal Centre Salon, is a finalist in the ModPortrait17 and ModPortrait19 Award held in Spain.
She was a finalist at the Scottish Portrait Award 2017 and has exhibited at MEAM Barcelona in both ‘Women Painting’ exhibitions held in 2019/2020 to celebrate International Women’s Day. In 2021 Stephanie received the People’s Choice Award in Beautiful Bizarre Magazine’s Art Competition and in 2023 she won Third Prize in Beautiful Bizarre Magazine RayMar Traditional Art Prize. In 2024 Stephanie created a gold panel to become the label for Compass Box Whisky’s Hedonism 2024 limited Edition bottling.
Jeff Echevarria “What Dreams May Come”
Haven Gallery is honored to present New Jersey based artist, Jeff Echevarria, for his third solo show, “What Dreams May Come” at Haven Gallery. “What Dreams May Come” features ten expertly rendered drawings focusing on emotional fortitude in the pursuit of one’s own dreams. The new collection features both portraits and narrative works that appear contemplative and confrontational as the sitters overcome the hurdles of life to achieve their aspirations. The endurance and vigor of the human condition is exemplified by the artists own stories as well as those from fiction, encouraging and strengthening our own convictions as viewers, championing us to hold onto our dreams and never give up.

ABOUT JEFF ECHEVARRIA
Echevarria’s technique is praised for its realistic tendencies, but also its heartfelt approach to technique and story telling. Each drawing is masterfully drawn but imbues heavy emotion as the artist revisits stories of the past with new eyes and perspective. A near death experience, resulting surgery and subsequent rehabilitation, left Echevarria with an opportunity to learn again how to draw and see the world anew. His art represents just that; a beautiful revival and celebration of perspective; a familiar but novel visit to the transportive and comforting worlds of the supernatural and a revival of hope. A reminder of the power and strength of human perspective and heart.
Kathie Olivas, Limbo
Haven Gallery is honored to present New Mexico based artist, Kathie Olivas, for her sixth solo show, “Limbo” at Haven Gallery. Oliva’s characters are known for their playful expressions, invoking nostalgia and a yearning for the past. Forever curious, with a hint of deviousness, Olivas girls engage the viewer with playful demeanors beholden of mystery, evoking childhood wonder and shenanigans. A dismantling of time as linear, each work is aged, despite the waif like characters that pervade the artists oeuvre. “Limbo” defines this boundless motif ubiquitously found in the artists oeuvre.

ABOUT KATHIE OLIVAS
Kathie Olivas is a multi-media narrative artist who resides in Algodones, NM with her husband and fellow artist, Brandt Peters. She began drawing portraits as a child and found an extreme love for creating from her imagination a world that did not exist in her own reality, often driven by her connection with the alter ego and reflective of her own experiences with a rare genetic disorder.
For almost three decades, her work has explored society’s insatiable desire to assign ‘cuteness’ and our discomfort with the unknown. A dark blend of early American portraiture set in post apocalyptic times, her paintings and sculptures are a satirical look at how fear affects our sense of reality. Her wide eyed children and anthropomorphic creatures are meant to evoke a nostalgic reaction that reflects isolation and uncertainty, yet they also act as empowered alter egos. While these characters explore their new lonely worlds, they double as our narrators capable of developing their own defense mechanisms. They guide us through their reality as they experience it and yet, even in their company, we are granted no reassurance.
Olivas worked as a portraitist and caricature artist in the early to mid 90’s while attending college at the University of South Florida in Tampa, FL. Before graduation, she began her early gallery curatorial work at Hyde Park Fine Arts and Covivant Gallery, putting together numerous exhibitions featuring artists from around the globe that connected to a narrative or character driven vision. Her long career in the arts has allowed her to exhibit at galleries and museums around the world and also connect to other visionaries and collaborators. She and her husband own and operate Stranger Factory Gallery in Algodones, NM and the internationally acclaimed artist collective, Circus Posterus.
