Laura Barth is a member of the Beautiful Bizarre Artist Directory
Laura Barth is a self-taught, multidisciplinary artist based in the mountains of North Carolina, United States. Primary media include analog and experimental photography, graphite, charcoal, watercolor, and linocut prints. Laura currently exhibits her work at Calendula gallery in St. Paul and has had work awarded, published, and exhibited across the country. She currently serves as the Digital Media Consultant for Analog Forever Magazine.

Her creative process for her altered photos typically begins with finding an image associated with a significant personal memory on her old cell phones, cameras, or film and using that image to create an instant photo. She then manipulates the resulting photo through the emulsion lift process and frequently integrates them with other media such as graphite, watercolor, and/or botanical samples. The resulting pieces often become vague, distorted, and/or transformed during the process, often adding new sensations, feelings, or abstractions. What was originally an old memory associated with a specific situation has become something new and taken on new meaning.

Recurring themes in Laura’s work are profound connections with nature, personal folklore and mythology, our inner emotional lives, spirituality and mysticism, exploring the unknowable, and exploring the presence or absence of “god” or god-like figures.
