Daniel Pawłowski, born on May 23, 1989, in Wloclawek, Poland, is a graduate of the Faculty of Fine Arts at Nicolaus Copernicus University in Torun, specializing in monument conservation. He has honed a wide range of artistic skills since childhood in the studio of local artist, Waldemar Biliński. From an early age, he mastered various techniques, from sculpture and ceramics to watercolour and oil painting, which became his primary means of expression. He painted his first oil painting at the age of just 10.

In his work, Pawlowski explores the relationship between humans and the surrounding world, as well as metaphysical reality. He draws inspiration from the idea of immortality (non omnis moriar) and the spiritual dimension of life. He often refers to historical, national, and religious symbolism, creating works that not only captivate with their aesthetics but also provoke deeper reflection on history and the human condition. Pawlowski juxtaposes corporeality with the monumentality of sculptural structures, building tension between permanence and transience. His paintings are distinguished by technical precision and intense emotional depth, making them highly engaging for viewers.

In 2022, Daniel Pawłowski was included in the prestigious list of the world’s best-selling artists under 40, according to a report by artprice.com.

“Non omnis moriar – I shall not wholly die.” This thought has deeply etched itself into my consciousness and remains one of the primary inspirations for my painting. In Daniel Pawłowski’s compositions, the human figure often appears as the center of the surrounding world or an inseparable part of it. Torn by various emotions—ranging from passion and melancholy to the frenzy of exaltation—it turns on the wheel of life, woven into the incomprehensible order of the universe.

Here, humanity is part of a metaphysical plant from which it has grown, and which it simultaneously nurtures and shapes. Paradoxically, as we take our last breath, it is only up to us whether it becomes a bearer of life or death. For a believer, it signifies the life of an immortal soul; for someone else, it may be immortality in memories, actions, or works.

The interwoven worlds in his paintings often represent different paths of this very soul. This is why he frequently highlight stairs as a motif—symbolizing a journey, an obstacle, or a pivotal decision. The boundless sky full of stars, before which man seems insignificant, contrasts with surreal architectural constructions of temples and earthly nature.

“I am far from imposing an interpretation on the reception of a work. I believe that it is a huge mistake to assume ‘what the author had in mind…’. A work of art becomes a work of art when it exists as such in the mind of the viewer. When it is born anew within the viewer. A completely individual bond is created between the work and the viewer. The image does not have to be for the author what it becomes for the observer. It is up to you to decide what the work of art will be, what story it will tell and where it will take you. The author is merely the one who opens the door or turns the lock. A kind of key, guarding worlds and stories that he himself might not have seen. You open and enter – I invite you to do so“.
