Hello beautiful bizarre friends, Issue 46 of Beautiful Bizarre Magazine with Jennybird Alcantara’s pop surreal masterpiece on the cover. I hope you love it!

Enjoy our Editor-in-Chief’s Note from the Editor, published in Beautiful Bizarre Magazine Issue 46

It’s July as I write to you, which is always a wonderful time in our office. This month my husband Richard and I had the great honour of exhibiting part of our personal art collection at the New England Regional Art Museum [NERAM] here in Australia. I am incredibly grateful for this opportunity to be able to share the work of so many artists that I love with the public.

Exhibiting Our Personal Art Collection

Richard and I had a much smaller art collection prior to the launch of Beautiful Bizarre Magazine in 2013, and, more specifically, prior to the first of our curated exhibitions. Almost all of the works in our home, and in our exhibition at NERAM, have been acquired from our own shows. The artworks from these exhibitions are incredibly important to us, not only because we love the works themselves but also because we feel a deep need to support the emerging and mid-career representational artists within the Beautiful Bizarre aesthetic.

We have had the great pleasure of meeting many of the artists who created these works at the opening receptions of our exhibitions, which adds an additional dimension when we are able to discuss their work with them in person.

Although these are group exhibitions, many of the artists travel internationally to be present for the exhibition openings, and we have formed many wonderful friendships with artists from around the world over the years. Some artworks in our collection have a particular importance to us, such as ‘Loch’ by Hannah Yata, which was from our first museum exhibition Gaia Reborn at Urban Nation Museum in Berlin in 2019, and ‘The Secret Language of the Wind’ by Lo Chan Peng, the Grand Prize Winner of the 2023 Beautiful Bizarre Art Prize.

Regardless of the provenance of the artwork in our collection, they all have a special place in our hearts and are a constant source of joy for us, we hope that the public appreciates them as well.

2024 Beautiful Bizarre Art Prize

It was also the final month artists were able to enter this year’s Beautiful Bizarre Art Prize, so, as you can imagine, we are getting lots of incredible work being submitted at that time. We are deeply grateful to all of this year’s sponsors who have enabled us to give away our largest prize pool ever, with $73,000 USD in cash, product and service prizes going to this year’s winners! Special thanks goes to this year’s Palladium sponsor Musonium Gallery, and Platinum sponsors: RAYMAR, Yasha Young Projects, Bear Wolf Books, and 33PA.

As philanthropists and arts related businesses their support of artists from all different countries and cultures through the Beautiful Bizarre Art Prize is not only deeply appreciated, but is an incredible legacy for themselves and their businesses. On behalf of all the artists whose lives and careers have been uplifted by all of our Art Prize sponsors over the last 7 years, we thank you!
