There’s no time like the present to immerse yourself in the imaginative illustrations of Kat Philbin. Join The Dark Art Emporium as they celebrate her highly anticipated solo exhibition, “13 Foxes and the End of the World”.  Dive head first into the magical storytelling that welcomes you to take a memorable, creative journey.

The Dark Art Emporium will once again host a Facebook live reception event at 7pm Saturday, July 11th with Kat Philbin co-hosting from the gallery! She will also be on a new episode of the Art Pit podcast.

“13 Foxes and the End of the World” was conceived and created during a very dark time, both personally and globally, and it was a darkness I had to acknowledge. Amid fire and disease and destruction, the end of the world looms, but there will always be rebirth. Stories and mythologies to be born from the wreckage. Whether in the form of strange goddesses to heal the world or in the mundane lives of foxes, new stories will be told.

There is no way to begin describing the work of Kat Philbin without using words like “Incredibly Detailed” or “Intricate and Whimsical”. Working primarily in stark pen and ink, with the occasional color work, she aptly uses small lines and delicate pen strokes to invoke her creations with a spirit that Edward Gorey would undoubtedly smile upon with pride. Her brand of anthropomorphic fairy tales tell stories laced with magic and danger, no small amount of humor and a deep love for all creatures in the animal kingdom. In this, her first solo exhibition with the DAE, she leans heavily upon the animal she lovingly refers to as her “Swiss army knife”, The Fox.
