Anniversary special: Mark Facey and Beyond the Sea group show at Nanny Goat Gallery

It’s hard to believe that it had already been one year since we featured the grand opening of Nanny Goat Gallery.  Situated in the heart of Downtown Petaluma, Nanny Goat Gallery has made a strong name for themselves, boasting warm and friendly exhibition openings where locals and visitors alike have joined to celebrate a host of local and international artists.

The gallery owners, Emily and Paul Eccles, have planned a special celebration of the anniversary by opening with their largest group exhibition to date, plus the unveiling of a new solo show from British artist Mark Facey. Opening this Friday June 27th, what better place to be than Nanny Goat Gallery in Downtown Petaluma?

We at Nanny Goat Gallery would like to thank the artists and art lovers who have supported us throughout the year. You have all been such an integral part of our success and we hope you can celebrate this milestone with us. Drinks will be provided with a champagne toast at 7pm!

Experimenting further with oils, British artist Mark Facey celebrates the serenity of nature, inviting us to slow down and take in each moment and consider our own relationships with the natural world through his deeply beautiful new collection.

“For the group exhibition ‘Beyond the Sea’, we decided to celebrate our close proximity to, and deep love of, the California coast.” Shares Emily Eccles. “Fifty of today’s best artists, many we have worked with in the past, were asked to create work inspired by the mystery and beauty of the sea and what lies beneath it. The results have been incredible, and we can’t wait to share it with you.”

About Nanny Goat Gallery //

Taking roots in the Petaluma arts scene, Nanny Goat Gallery celebrates new and contemporary representational art, predominantly in the pop surreal, narrative, and fantasy genres. Far from the minimalist white walls experience, Nanny Goat Gallery happily leans into its historical foundations. The gallery boasts a two-room space with rustic brick walls, across the street from the river in downtown Petaluma.

Why “Nanny Goat” Gallery?

During the 1940s to the 1960s, spanning three generations, members of Emily Eccles’ family resided on a picturesque hill in San Francisco affectionately referred to as Nanny Goat Hill. Memories of her family home evoke tales of its humble beginnings; the transformations it underwent, and the countless cherished moments shared within its walls—abundant laughter mingled with the occasional challenge.

Fast forward to today, and Emily’s journey, with her husband and gallery co-owner Paul, continues with the establishment of their gallery in Petaluma, nestled just 20 miles north of the vibrant city. This endeavor is truly a family affair, with each member contributing their unique expertise: Emily’s husband brings his skills in technology and law to the table, and Emily’s mom lends her financial acumen as CPA.

Yet, even in this modern venture, the spirits of her beloved grandmother and great-grandmother seem to linger, weaving their legacy into every aspect of their endeavor – an element that fills Emily Eccles’ heart with profound joy.
