- How do you respond to criticism, and does it influence your future work?

What do you hope to leave behind in the world through your art?
I have not been receiving any criticism throughout my art practice. Like most free thinking artists I create what flows to me through inspiration and world observation. My art is a reflection of my own feelings and emotions that can not be judged or criticized. If only by myself.
I do look upon any of my finished piece very critically, in that sense, picking on strong points or weak points. I notice details that I think could have been done better. I am also very pleased seeing improvements and high points. Be it in composition, character choices, overall theme that I managed to carry through or colour variations. And I note all of these to myself. This is a never ending learning to elevate my artistic skills. The driving force to achieve even better.
With the move to more online exhibitions, what role do physical galleries have in the arts going forward?
I very much hope there will be a very nice balance between online and physical galleries maintained. Both are equally essential. Each has its positives. I do believe physical galleries have a strong foot in the market. When shopping for art, or even visiting a gallery for inspiration, nothing can beat looking at a physical original painting in front of you. The energy most artwork emanate, envelop you, you ‘feel’ the art and what it is trying to tell you. You react on these flows of energy.
I truly believe in this. I have heard many of my art collectors telling me that, that the
painting called them and once seeing it they simply cannot part with it – they have to
have it. I feel my task completed. I also understand the modern-day accessibility to practically anything via visuals of the online world. Its positives are to catch your attention, to lure your curiosity to discover more. Online platforms can reach a bigger audience at once, it is convenient.
If you had unlimited resources, what would you do to further your art career?
Wonderful question! I would open up an art gallery, either just of my own art or a gallery representing a selection of artists, my friends. I would travel the world collecting inspiration to continue to create new paintings.
Unlimited resources and financial stability can significantly improve one’s achievements in arts, as it takes the heavy pressure of cost of living and having to sell to survive, off one’s shoulders. It leaves any artist free from these worries; this is when the best results can be achieved, in the relaxed and happy state of mind ready to accept the creative cosmic flow.
How does your work reflect as you an individual?
My work is I, and I am my work. It reflects my moods and emotions. Themes that I depict show what is happening with me or what I am going through. Scenes reflect my travels and picked inspirations. My animal and plant characters behave like humans, because I believe everything has a soul. I hope my art teaches a viewer to kindness and love to all living creatures – something that I strongly believe in. A dash of humour in most of my paintings is an essential part. It reflects my cheerful and optimistic personality, sensitivity to nature and a strong belief in miracles.
