About the Gallery //

Haven Gallery is run by Erica Berkowitz and Joseph Weinreb. The gallery first opened in 2015 in the Carriage House of historic Northport, NY. Within two years, the gallery doubled in size and expanded into the entire Carriage House building. Through their successful in-house exhibitions and presentations at art fairs both domestic and international, Haven opened a secondary location at 90 Main St., in 2020, during the height of the Covid pandemic. It was at that point, that Erica and Joseph knew it was time to find a permanent location for their artists. In January of 2022, they bought the building at 50 Main st., and opened its doors as Haven Gallery’s perennial home.

Haven Gallery’s focus is on exhibiting emotionally, intellectually and imaginatively driven, representational artwork that connects the audience and artist with universal axioms and passions. We work with both emerging and established artists who transcend their medium and subjects by exploring the world around them as well as the one within themselves.

Stan Manoukian, Forgotten

About Stan Manoukian //

Stan Manoukian is a French graphic artist born in 1969 in Paris.

He has had a passion for drawing since his childhood and most of his inspiration comes from retro sci-fi, classic monster movies, as well as the novels of authors such as Edgar Allan Poe, Lovecraft, Mary Shelley and Jules Verne. In 1988, after he graduated from the Estienne Art School, he started to work in France and the United States as a cartoonist, designer and storyboarder for the movie industry and in advertising.

In 2007, Manoukian issued himself an artistic challenge: draw one monster a day for one year. This larger scale initiative gave birth to the book called « Diary of Inhuman Species », published by Ankama the following year.

Since 2008, the exploration of his phantasmagoric world pushes him towards bigger and more ambitious projects, testing diverse techniques in both drawing and sculpture.

He belongs to the worldwide generation of post lowbrow artists. With his increasingly detailed content, abounding with dreamlike creatures, his work harkens to the romantic paintings from the nineteenth century. His menagerie is composed of creatures both extraterrestrial and from the deepest abysses on Earth, thereby transporting the viewer to a fantastic and surrealistic world, where nature is omnipresent. The whole of his work on the fantastic bestiary is gathered in a monography released in 2019, “Zoologia” by Cernunnos.

Heir of Gustave Doré, Franklin Booth, and Bernie Wrightson, Stan Manoukian refines a unique visual scripture through hatching and dimming, which employs ink or graphite to mimic an engraving. Currently, his works are internationally recognized and have been displayed in several exhibitions and books in the USA, Japan, Australia, France and Europe.

Zoe Thomas, Bring Your Own Magic

Haven Gallery is pleased to present new sculptures by UK based artist Zoe Thomas. “Bring Your Own Magic” is Thomas’s fourth solo show at the gallery and features eight clay-sculpted and sewn dolls that surrealistically merge the world of humans with the animal kingdom, with an emphasis on the magical. Humanity peacefully co-exists with animals in the souls of her dolls as they exude a sense of tranquility and peace. A reminder of the beauty and enchanting connection amongst all living things.
