How do you approach the challenger of staying motivated and inspired in your art practice, and what strategies do you use to keep your creative flowing?
I try to remind myself of my goals, skills, and priorities. Keeping the big picture in sight makes everyday obstacles easier to digest, helping me maintain a mindset that leads to creativity and productivity. In the midst of solving daily problems, it’s easy to forget what my top priorities should be.
In addition, I try to keep my exercise routine consistent. Physical activity, particularly cardio, helps me balance my emotions and clear my mind of nagging problems. I also want to note that as an artist who works in expressive styles like mine, and tries to reflect struggles rather than simply painting something “beautiful,” I find it normal to feel overwhelmed or down sometimes. This isn’t necessarily because of the work, but rather the general mood. I have accepted that I am sensitive to my surroundings, but I have learned not to let that block my path. It is not always pleasant, but it is part of my personality, and it shapes and completes the style of my art and music.
Can you talk about the role of storytelling and narrative in your work?
Storytelling plays an important role, though my artwork doesn’t usually narrate a story directly. Instead, I believe my work illustrates the impact and outcomes of different stories. I visualize these through symbols, motifs, elements, and surrealistic concepts that represent the underlying narrative.
What do you consider to be the most rewarding aspects of your work?
It is probably the satisfaction of completing an original work and the feeling of accomplishment, regardless of its financial or social success. That brief moment of bliss recharges me and makes me look forward to continuing with the next project.
What advice do you have for aspiring artists who are just starting out?
My advice is to not be discouraged by the impact of AI on the art world; instead, remain positive and strive to be the truest version of yourself. Don’t hesitate to learn any tools or skill sets that you find helpful on your path, and never hide in your comfort zone. Embrace what you are not familiar with in order to grow in your career and broaden your horizons.
