A portrait is never just a face. It’s an emotion held for a moment, symbolism, a memory made visible, a shadow… something deeply personal while sometimes quietly impersonal at the same time. It can carry the weight of a feeling without ever even naming it. A portrait is far more than likeness. It becomes what we ask it to be, and holds what lingers beneath the surface. It sits with the self we present and the self we keep hidden, existing somewhere in the in-between spaces we all have come to know. Tonight, Modern Eden Gallery invites you to ‘The Portrait Show 14: Masquerade’, where every mask becomes a mirror, lost in the layers of what is concealed and revealed.

Modern Eden Press Release //
Modern Eden Gallery proudly presents The Portrait Show 14: Masquerade, our annual portrait show and a long standing celebration of contemporary portraiture. This yearโs theme explores the space between identity and performance, and the many ways we shape, conceal, and reinvent ourselves. A mask can hide the face while revealing something deeper beneath it, allowing portraiture to become a place of transformation, tension, and imagination. From subtle personas to dramatic reinventions, the works in Masquerade reflect the shifting nature of self and the faces we choose to show the world.
