Esao Andrews is an American painter born in Arizona and moved to New York in 1996 in the district of Brooklyn to perform his art. He attended the School of Visual Arts, and has designed skateboards for Deathwish Skateboards and Baker Skateboards. Currently designing pictures for Vertigo Comics, he is best known for his art album for Circa Survive’s Inuit Sessions (2005), Juturna (2005), On Letting Go (2007), and Blue Sky Noise (2010).
The peculiarity of this artist is that he presents various works, contributing to his “no-style”, perhaps because of the fear of being labeled and trapped in only one artistic category. Grotesque, erotic, surreal, gothic and more, Esao is everything we can imagine, distinguish, want, and venture.
He feels it is essential to nourish himself with stimuli and diversity every day, uniting a frightening and sublime pleasure. When we are dealing with so much vastness, it is easy to fall in love and to get lost in the spirit of an infinite and enchanted world that Esao creates. However, in the loss, we find ourselves ever more glorious and following the lines, every little point, in the union, is almost comforting. The lightheartedness rejoices in the worst balance of everything. Standing in front of his paintings, one has the impression that each figure has a journey to fulfill. In the affirmation of existence, everything is silent and in the remains, the only signs that travel across a light show that everything is alive, even and especially the merciless idyll.
Who does not want to get lost in a majestic journey? The destruction of the sense, the desire to fly, the weapon as power, the flame as the truth, water as salvation, the portraits are ready to dream and animals that move along the way. A country becomes beautiful when there is a search for substantial, stated and decided work among colors and subjects. The contrast creates the horrific mystery made up of illusions confirms the damnation of man/animal and the perception of detachment as an intense struggle of depth. In the end, there is a sense of getting lost forever, without balance.
