Julie Filipenko, “Plugging In”

Press: Northport, NY– Haven Gallery is pleased to present “Plugging In”, a mini solo exhibition of new work by Israel based artist Julie Filipenko. “Plugging In” is Filipenko’s third solo show at the gallery. Filipenko’s paintings are mischievously bold and playful. Her girls are known for their recognizable faces featuring large, expressive eyes curious with wonder and adventure. A lover of pattern, detail and design, her ornamentation embraces both the femininity of her subjects and inquisitiveness of their burgeoning minds. One can’t help but be drawn in by their girlish guile and be reminded of their own adventures and curiosity from youth.

Julie Filipenko is an artist residing in Tel Aviv, Israel. Julie earned a BFA from Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design in Jerusalem, Israel. Her work has been exhibited all over the United States, Australia, Israel and Europe.

Alex Garant, “Off Balance”

Press: Northport, NY– Haven Gallery is honored to present “Off Balance”, a solo exhibition of new artwork by Canadian based artist Alex Garant. “Off Balance” is Garant’s second solo show with the gallery and will include a series of new paintings and drawings. Garant’s signature double eyed portraiture is contrasted with bold, colorful patterns and geometric designs.

The double exposed nature of each portrait harks to antique and contemporary methods of photography and are also suggestive of the historic movements in art such a futurism and op art. The hallucinogenic qualities of Garant’s work create an optical reaction resulting in an individualized experience. Capturing a moment of perpetual motion through perhaps humans most telling body part, the eyes, playfully provokes the viewers sensory experience. This illusionary effect of motion offers a glimpse of the multifaceted and oftentimes multi-self trait to humanity, both that of one’s own volition as well as the latent workings of the subconscious and unconscious mind. Internationally renown as the Queen of Double Eyes, Alex Garant studied visual arts at Notre-Dame–De-Foy College just outside Quebec City. After graduating in 2001, she ultimately settled in Toronto, Canada. She decided to truly commit to her passion for Arts after suffering from a heart attack in 2012, changing forever how she would see the world.

As a pioneer of Contemporary Figurative Op Art, her oil paintings offer a graphic quality combined with traditional portrait techniques. Garant establishes herself as one of the leaders of analogue Glitch Art by using patterns, duplication of elements, symmetry and image superposition as key elements of her imagery. Her paintings are a reflection on human duality, the battle for self-definition between one’s inner self and outer persona. Represented by galleries in New York, Los Angeles and Australia, her works have also been shown in several museums including the Museum of Art and History (MOAH) in California, the Mesa Contemporary Arts Museum in Arizona, the Honolulu Museum of Art in Hawaii and the Fullerton Museum Center in California. She has been featured in Hi-fructose, Juxtapoz, Beautiful Bizarre, the American Art Collector magazine and on multiple online platforms including VICE, The Huffington Post, Buzznet and many more.

Zoë Williams, “Crystal Magic”

Press: Haven Gallery is pleased to present Zoe Williams for her first solo show, “Crystal Magic”. Zoe utilizes the art of needle felting to create imaginative animal sculptures. This new body of work features bold colored crystals and her signature white felt to portray the individuality of each piece. Her crystals are handmade in resin and curated with vivid hues and gradients; each one catches the light and celebrates the life energy and splendor of her beings. Often finding inspiration from dreams, folklore, mythology and the Collective Unconscious, Zoe carefully manipulates wool to achieve a high level of detail.

Zoe Williams creates otherworldly creatures inspired by dreams, animals, and the Collective Unconscious. Her recent work in particular is influenced by vaporwave ( a e s t h e t i c ) and kawaii subcultures and incorporates handmade resin crystals in addition to her signature white felt.

Born in 1983 in New Orleans, Louisiana, Zoe Williams holds a BA in Fine Art from the University of New Orleans and a Certificate in Fiber Art from the University of Washington. She has been creating sculptural needle felt since 2008 and her work has been exhibited in galleries worldwide. She currently lives and works in New York City.

Julia Gabrielov, “The Wise & The Wilderness”

Press: Haven Gallery is pleased to present Julia Gabrielov for her first solo show “The Wise and the Wilderness” at the Haven Gallery. The exhibition will display a series of new oil paintings and drawings. Each piece depicts animals, flora and the human figure all existing in one harmonious composition. Both these animals and their environments serve as symbols of experiences, emotions and relationships we encounter as humans. Wisdom found, lost, shared and given is represented by an orb of light found in each composition further telling the narrative of personal growth and evolution.

Gabrielov weaves surrealism into her paintings creating unique narratives. “Story telling is a passion that resonates within everything I do. Whether it is realism, animation, or garment making, I desire to share a fantasy world with my audience. That is why I love painting series.”

Kukula, “Dear Diary “

Press: Haven Gallery is excited to announce, “Dear Diary”, an exclusive exhibition of sketches collected straight from Kukula’s personal sketchbook, to be on exhibition February 22nd – March 22nd, 2020. “Dear Diary” hosts a collection of twenty drawings on paper dating from 2013-2019. The work represents a symphony of ideas that lead to the production of some of the artists most iconic paintings. Each graphite sketch offers a special look at Kukula’s process in the creation and design of her girls and the decadent clothes and worlds that they inhabit. Never before has an exhibition come about featuring such intimate and personal ruminations of the artist; we hope you will enjoy this glimpse into her unique and neo-rococo world.

A special event with Kukula at the gallery, in March 2020, will be announced soon.
