Every month Beautiful Bizarre Magazine chooses one of our favourite art lovers to TAKE OVER social media for the day. For July, we chose INPRNT to share with us the artists who have inspired them. INPRNT is a proud sponsor of the Beautiful Bizarre Art Prize 2019: learn more HERE!
Just in case you missed it, below we present the full TAKE OVER.
INPRNT // Hi there, we are INPRNT, a fine art print studio established in 2006 and your hosts for this month’s Beautiful Bizarre Takeover. INPRNT was born out of a passion for helping artists. Our founder, Joshua Zika, started making prints for a small group of his friends from Ringling College of Art and Design, and since then we’ve grown into assisting a broad community of creatives from around the world. Their work inspires us daily with a diverse array of styles, themes, and subjects. As creators ourselves we feel very passionate about the level of service we provide, giving artists more time to focus on doing what they love most. We are delighted to share some of the incredible artists we’ve had the honor of working with on editions and prints. Here are seven of our favorites, we hope you will follow along.
Featured artists: Marcela Bolivar, Audra Auclair, Joy Ang, Cleonique, Chantal Horeis, Daria Theodora, Samantha Mash, Diego Fernandez, Marta Bevaqua, and Jon Contino.
Lisa Hanawalt// With her mix of humor, surreal animals, bold colors, and an eccentric portrayal of daily life, Lisa Hanawalt has become known for creating rich and fantastical worlds. From her whimsical music video collaboration with Tegan & Sara, to her work on the Netflix series Bojack Horseman and her latest creation Tuca & Bertie, Lisa’s unconventional worlds are grounded in reality in a way that feels familiar. The quirky characters she creates in mixed media and watercolor are placed into playful and humorous situations worth exploring. Take some time to get acquainted with her comics and paintings online, or indulge in binge-watching a season of her Netflix shows. We’ve been fans of her work for many years and always look forward to seeing more of Lisa’s eclectic creations.

Erik Johansson// At INPRNT we have the pleasure of getting to know some of our favorite artists through our Artist Spotlight series. We recently visited the Prague studio of Erik Johansson to learn more about his process and find out how he dreams up his mind-bending images. Hailing from Sweden, this photographer is a master of manipulation. Erik imagines and then builds surreal images out of his photography and retouching. Preferring to work with items from the real world, like a giant pair of tweezers he commissioned from a local blacksmith, he often takes hundreds of photos to get the final image just perfect. After long shoots on location, he completes his pieces in a cozy studio near his home. Erik’s surrealist and dreamlike montages will undoubtedly challenge your perception of reality.

Morgan Davidson// It’s always a pleasure producing prints for artist Morgan Davidson, who has become prominently known for her wizard-like mastery in colored pencils. Her vibrant illustrations feature bold colors and exhibit an other-worldly finesse of the medium. She has a wonderful ability to evoke a mood using her magical sense of color and realism, merging lifelike renderings with unexpected colors. Her vibrant illustrations have even adorned the cover of Prismacolor art supplies. For us, it’s exciting to work with a local talent like Morgan, who grew up in Florida and attended Ringling College of Art and Design like INPRNT’s founder. We are honored to be trusted with producing high-quality and color-accurate giclees of Morgan’s amazing work.

Sergio Lopez// Sergio Lopez is a contemporary oil painter who explores form and nature through his figure painting. His series of paintings transform figures, nature, and landscapes into a mesmerizing display of the female spirit. Sergio’s paintings allow the figures to become the environment; limbs intertwine with feathers in his Proud Bird series, while painted fabric immerses the female form in a series titled Natural Patterns, and floral tapestries blend the physical boundaries in his Painted Roses collection. The ideas of nature and figure are fused together by the oil paint itself in masterpieces filled with mysterious and sensual energy. Sergio Lopez breathes life into classical painting and creates beautiful work that has our undivided attention.

// Jovana Rikalo is a fine art photographer from Serbia whose work focuses on whimsical portraiture set in surrealist environments. She merges fashion, dreams, nature, and storytelling into unnatural snapshots derived from reality. Her unique personal approach to photography has captured the attention of platforms like Instagram and brands like Canon and Adobe. Jovana creates little elements of surrealism through stylistic choices like her love of long dresses, ethereal models on stilts, handmade props, and even smoke bombs. Her work blends high fashion aesthetics with thought-provoking surreal imagery that will take your breath away.

// Artist Barnaby Ward, also known as Somefield, is a Barbados island native and a friend of INPRNT for many years. His curious and intriguing work gives us the constant desire to know more about the characters and world he teases. Barnaby creates captivating expressions of fantasy, technology, and nature. We are drawn to his bizarre characters and greeted by the wonderful quality of his lines, bringing along their own story and mood, with a playful use of color. We had the pleasure of welcoming Barnaby into our studio to sign his latest volume of work. Snatch up his limited edition Humphrey II prints, silkscreen printed with beautiful metallic ink.

Jon Contino // Master craftsman, artisan, and New York native Jon Contino has a reputation as one of the industry’s hardest-working designers. His distinctive style is defined by its humanity, eschewing pre-fab typefaces for raw, honest expression. Jon has a unique ability to distill a brand down to its core essence and express it through his unique blend of minimalist illustration and unmistakeable hand-lettering. We’ve had the absolute pleasure of working with Jon for many years on a variety of projects. Jon’s passion and his ability to tell a brand’s story through his work are unparalleled. See his process in a time-lapse of the creation of Forever INPRNT. You can also check out his collection of work in his new retrospective book, Brand by Hand.
