Twenty-three years ago in Pacoima, California, emerging artist known only as M a c h i n eR a b b i t was born. Growing up, he was surrounded by crime. The only artists he brushed up against were neighborhood graffiti artists and his school art teacher, who took special interest in his early artistic talents. He recalls her frequent gifts of art supplies; she made sure he always had the materials he needed to create. MR credits this teacher, as well as other teachers, for pushing him forward into art.
“I believe in art. I believe it is one of the most important qualities in Life, and I admire every single artist. There is a greater, more important meaning for [art] we have yet to see.” ∼ M a c h i n eR a b b i t
Having limited contact with artists and artwork outside from his own, M a c h i n eR a b b i t developed his personal eerie style of work grafted from his dreams. His paintings are one with his psyche. When you peer at his art, you peer into his mind and into his dreams. Bizarre figures, often in the nude, frolic around fantastical landscapes of acrylic blues and greens. Gleaning inspiration from his wanderings to ancient ruins and admiring the freedom of our insect friends, the surreal compositions are achingly exquisite. You can feel the thirst for knowledge. You can barely grasp at the level of philosophical understanding portrayed in these works. The artist fearlessly digs deep into himself. The result is a pure, raw glimpse of an inquisitive mind.
With a yearning to ever evolve in his work, the artist chose his artist’s name to reflect his vision of the future. He explained to me that his art’s purpose is to start something new for an artist in the future…to pass the torch, if you will. M a c h i n eR a b b i t looks forward, and envisions a world densely packed with artists, and maybe even robots, evolving together.
