It was a blustery, dark Wednesday night on February 3rd when the doors were opened and Helikon Gallery welcomed the crowd of Denverites on hand for the opening reception of ‘Opiates for the Masses’. The show includes large scale pieces from some of Contemporary Art’s most popular and sought after artists. This special night also featured a live painting and wood burning by Denver artists Gamma & Dread. The show was guided by the idea of large scale art in the spirit of outdoor murals brought into a gallery setting and made available for purchase.

Press Release
‘Opiates’ is inspired by mural artists who create stunning public works of art on a massive scale. Over a dozen artists from around the country created colossal paintings on rolled canvas or wood panels, with some works as large as 12 feet by 6 feet. Artists are creating work based on modern interpretations of ‘opiates for the masses,’ from fickle creature comforts and daily distractions, to the soul-soothing outlets and philosophies we lean upon.
