Paul Booth, the founder of Last Rites Gallery, is opening a second NYC art gallery! Located in the same address as Last Rites Gallery, Booth Gallery and its roster of carefully selected artists are going to take over the location’s large ground floor space, while Last Rites Gallery is going to be relocated to the second floor mezzanine gallery. For years, Paul Booth has wanted to launch a new gallery that can trigger ongoing dialogues and new perspectives on social, psychological and philosophical subjects. By presenting meticulously curated thought-provoking contemporary artworks, he aims to develop a wider audience who are interested in the connections between historical relevance and experimentation of ideas through art.
This gallery has been conceived to mark a departure from the contemporary surrealism for which Paul and Last Rites have been known for. And, this Saturday (November 14, 2015), the gallery is going to present its inaugural exhibition – Second Sight – that explores the ambiguous links between information, perception, and interpretation. It is an invitation to take closer looks at the artworks and go beyond the things we can immediately comprehend through our five senses. In other words, it is an encouragement to ponder, discover, interpret, and discuss the meanings of the symbols embedded into the artworks through the filters of our memories and aesthetic experiences.
