Smash Gallery celebrates its Grand Opening by presenting ‘Flesh, Air, and Water’ – a fine art photography exhibition featuring the works of two extraordinary artists: Ed Freeman and Mariska Karto. Freeman’s underwater works present humanity in its most graceful form, floating in harmonious tranquility. Reminiscent of Renaissance paintings, Karto’s levitation photography are laced with haunting, tragic, and ominous undertones. Together, these works form a cohesive celebration of the human form, as well as providing profound insights into the human psyche.
Smash Gallery is a community-minded art gallery in the Tenderloin District of San Francisco. It specializes in showcasing thought-provoking and limit-redefining artworks by emerging and established contemporary artists. Founded by David Fenton and Lillie Troy, Smash Gallery is more than just a place to view contemporary artworks. It’s also a place where art and community meet. The gallery plans on displaying the works of local artists (especially Tenderloin District artists whenever possible) alongside their main exhibitions, as well as working within the community to sponsor engaging and inspiring events, talks, and activities.
