Marcas Gallery invites illustrators Reece Hobbins and Julia Sonmi Heglund to display their works alongside one other in a double solo exhibition. Inspired by Art Nouveau works, Australian artist Reece Hobbins set the subjects of his illustrations against deconstructed natural forms that shroud them like organic cocoons of flowing lines. Los Angeles based illustrator Julia Sonmi Heglund, however, utilizes abstract geometric forms with varying line weights to bring her figurative forms to life.
Even though they reside on two different sides of the world, both figurative artists are working in similar design industries. And, in order to communicate and interact with the people who view their works, both artists surround the subjects of their illustrations with abstract organic shapes. For those very reasons, Dana Jazayeri – Marcas Contemporary’s gallery director – is sure that the works of those two artists will complement one another well.
