The first striking thing about French Illustrator Julien Pacaud is his odd sense of humour. Off the wall on many levels, this 39 year old artist broke into the world of digital art in 2003. A dreamer and a cinema and television buff, he soon distinguished himself with his digital collages.
Julien mixes vintage illustrations and photography (from the 1900s to the 1970s) with geometric art and out of this world landscapes, creating unique and witty tributes to surrealism (he is a self-admitted fan of Magritte), pop art and old science-fiction. We also find references to his other passions, such as astronomy and time-travel (a dream he’d soon like to achieve) in Julien’s work, which brought together create a window to another world, where the rules of gravity and nature are much more relaxed and hilarious.
If most of Julien’s personal work is poetic, with hints of eroticism, when it comes to his commercial work, the outcome is often more satirical and political. Julien’s art is whimsical yet cleverly simple, with fascinating stories in disguise and dynamic compositions. History becomes a game, our family photos a dream and love has never been so playful… Follow Julien Pacaud’s work on Facebook for more of his surprising universe.
