Romanian artist Flavia Pitis, creates dark yet inviting paintings. Her subjects, often little girls and adult women, mysteriously exist in this dimly lit universe, in which many seem to be interacting with themselves, and other objects/beings such as animals, articles of clothing, etc.
The chiaroscuro effect, present in most of her work, creates a ghostly ambiance, one that upholds a fragile silence around her subjects, a silence that might, at any moment, be broken by our constant stares. The hazy atmosphere, recreated by her choice of dark hues, reminds us of a distant memory, one that we might or might not remember clearly.
“The center of my artwork is the memory. I’m also concentrate on humanism, on universal feelings, trying to avoid political involvement and contemporary social issues. My work reveals my own perception of those moments based on my visual journal. I‘m exploring how our mind is completing the past, adding convenient elements from our life experience or desires. I’m interested in catching that magic beauty beyond space and time that is born in our imagination in a realistic approach.”
